The project

The Valley Book is a print and online guide to the Farmington Valley towns. Its pages need photographs of working farms, trails and town landscapes that look like the area and read well at cover size.

Tyler Rivera, founder of Legend Photo & Film, is the photographer for these pages. The work is cover photography, scenic photography and editorial feature photography.

Our scope

The assignment covers three kinds of photographs. Cover photography is the single image that represents the whole edition. Scenic photography shows a place clearly and attractively on its own. Editorial feature photography supports a story or section about a place.

For editorial assignments, discuss intended print and digital layouts with the publication team before shooting.

Photography for your publication or business

If you publish a guide, a newsletter, a directory or a regional website, you need photographs that look like the place and work together as a set. Planning matters more than gear: which locations, which season, which time of day, and which images need to work as a cover or a wide banner.

For a business, farm, trail organization or town office, the same approach applies to photographs of grounds, facilities, animals, landscapes and seasonal scenes. Before shooting we agree on the locations, the deliverables, the file formats and how the images may be used, including any print and web use, and we put that in writing.

Photography can sit beside video when a project needs both. This page shows photography only.
