Website design, local SEO and content

Website design, local SEO, and content for local businesses

A local business website works best when it is built around the real people and the real work behind it. We plan the site, the search structure and the photos and film together, and we work with businesses wherever their customers are.

For Connecticut businesses

Our studio is in West Hartford, so Connecticut businesses can add in-person planning and on-location photo and video to the same project. Businesses in other states are welcome too: the design, writing and search work are done remotely for everyone.

One project instead of three separate vendors

Many local sites are built in pieces: one person designs, someone else writes, a third handles search, and the photos are whatever was on hand. The result often looks generic and says little about who you are. We run it as one project, so the design, the search setup and the original photos and film are decided together.

  • Website design

Answers the questions every visitor has: what you do, who it is for and how to reach you. Clear pages, easy mobile navigation and obvious next steps.

  • Local SEO

Helps search engines and local customers understand your services and where you work.

  • Original photos and film

Helps visitors recognize your team and understand your work. Real portraits, work in progress and short videos show who they would be dealing with.

Questions before you decide?

Share your site address, location, service area and goals. We will talk through the plan and scope with you.

Three services, each with its own page

You can start with one part or plan all three together. Each has a page that goes into detail.

  • Small business web design

Planning, design, mobile layout and copy for a site that explains what you do and makes contact easy.

  • Local SEO services

Search structure, service area clarity and Google Business Profile consistency, built around the area you serve.

  • Website photo and video content

Team portraits, work photos, brand films and hero assets planned for specific pages.

What you get: concrete deliverables

The exact list is agreed with you before work starts. These are the pieces we normally plan around.

  • Sitemap and page plan

A map of the pages your site needs, built around what customers ask and what you want them to do.

  • Service pages

One page per main service, so each one can be found and understood on its own.

  • Mobile-friendly navigation

A short menu that works with a thumb, with your phone number and contact route easy to reach.

  • Page copy

Plain-language writing about your work, in your voice, with clear headings and calls to action.

  • Real team photos

Portraits and working photos for your home, about and team pages.

  • Brand story

A clear account of who you are and why customers choose you, told on the page and optionally on camera.

  • Testimonials, if you have them

Customer words you have permission to use, placed near the pages where they help.

  • Inquiry flow

A contact route that tells you which page and service the visitor was interested in, so replies can be specific.

Our local SEO approach

Local SEO here means making your site easy for search engines and customers to understand. We optimize for the area your business serves, wherever that is. We start from search intent: what a person in your area types when they need what you offer, and which page should answer it. We use broad, natural wording rather than repeating phrases.

  • Service and area clarity: each page says what you do and where you serve, in plain words
  • Unique page titles and descriptions, aligned with each page’s distinct purpose and relevant searches
  • Canonical addresses, an indexable sitemap and redirects from old addresses where they apply
  • Google Business Profile consistency: business name, address, phone, hours and links match your site
  • Sensible internal links, so related pages lead to each other with descriptive link text
  • Performance and Core Web Vitals work on a best-effort basis: sized images, light pages and readable text. We do not promise a score.

Where the photos and film go on the site

Photo and video are planned against specific places on the site, not collected afterward. Each asset has a job, and each has a fallback so the page stays fast and readable if media is slow to load.

Design, copy and search work happen remotely. Original photo and video depend on where you are, so we plan them separately: you can supply existing assets, we can travel for a shoot, or production can be arranged locally. Each option is agreed in the scope.

  • Home page hero

One strong image or a short looped clip of real work or people. A poster image and legible text sit on top so the page reads even before video loads.

  • About and team pages

Individual and group portraits, with a short on-camera introduction if you want one. Our headshots service shows how portrait sessions run.

  • Service pages

Photos of the work itself, such as a job in progress or a finished project, placed next to the explanation of that service.

  • Proof sections

Short customer or team clips, and photos of real projects, next to the claims they support.

  • Speed and legibility controls

Images are sized for the screen, video does not autoplay with sound, large files load only when needed, and captions or text alternatives are included.

How the project runs

  • 1. Strategy

We learn your services, customers, service area and goals, and decide what the site should accomplish.

  • 2. Structure and copy

We agree the sitemap and write the page copy, with search intent in mind.

  • 3. Shoot

We photograph and film your team and work, guided by a shot list tied to specific pages.

  • 4. Build

We design and build the site with your copy and original media in place.

  • 5. QA and launch plan

We check pages on phones and desktops, titles, descriptions, links and redirects, then agree a launch plan with you.

  • 6. Measure and refine

After launch we look at how people find and use the site, and agree any adjustments.

Project options

Each project is quoted after we talk through your pages, content and needs. The options below describe what can be included.

  • Website Foundation

Planning, sitemap, design, copy and build, with search basics in place. Suited to a business that already has usable photos.

  • Website plus Photo and Video

Everything in the foundation, plus a shoot planned around your pages: team portraits, work photos and short film.

  • Optional ongoing SEO and content support

Continued page improvements, new content and review of how the site is performing. The scope is agreed in advance.

Who this suits

This approach fits businesses where customers want to see who they are hiring. Examples include contractors and trades and home services, professional services such as law, accounting or healthcare practices, manufacturers that want to show their process, and local teams who depend on word of mouth.

What affects the investment and timeline

Several things shape the scope: the number of pages, how much copy has to be written, whether photo and video are included, how many people appear on camera, travel and shoot days, and whether you need an existing site moved. Scope and timeline are agreed with you in writing before work begins. Your proposal sets out deliverables, revision stages, schedule, hosting and ownership arrangements before work begins.

Based in West Hartford, working with local businesses remotely

Legend is based in West Hartford, Connecticut. We can design, write and build a website remotely for a business in Oregon or anywhere else in the U.S., and local SEO is set up around your service area, not ours. Original photo and video are scoped separately because they depend on location, travel and the people involved.

For Connecticut businesses, on-location production is part of our everyday work, including Hartford, Farmington and Glastonbury. West Hartford, Farmington and Glastonbury each have a page about how we work there.

What to include in your inquiry

  • Your business name and current website address, if you have one
  • The cities, towns or region you serve
  • Your main goal: more calls, better quality leads, or a clearer story
  • What content you need: copy, portraits, team photos, video or all of them
  • Any launch goal or date you have in mind
  • Anything about your domain, hosting or old site we should know
  • Where your business is located, so we can plan photo and video for your area

Common questions

Do you only work with Connecticut businesses?

No. Legend is based in West Hartford, and we build websites and set up local SEO remotely for small businesses in other states. Original photo and video are planned separately depending on your location.

How does photo and video work if I am outside Connecticut?

We can use photos and video you already have, plan a shoot with travel, or arrange production locally. We agree the approach and scope before work begins.

Should I build a new site or redesign the one I have?

It depends on how well the current site is organized and what it ranks for. We look at what you have and recommend keeping, restructuring or replacing it.

How long does SEO take to work?

It varies by competition, your service area and how the site is built. Nobody can promise a timeline or a ranking, and we do not.

Do I need new photos?

Not always. If you have good real photos, we can use them. If not, original photos of your people and work usually help more than stock images.

Can you keep my existing domain?

Yes. A move from an old site includes planning for the address, redirects and indexable pages, so existing visibility is protected where possible.

What happens if my current site has pages that already get traffic?

We list them first. Pages that should stay keep their address, and pages that change get a redirect to the closest new page.

Is hosting and maintenance included?

Ongoing hosting and maintenance are scoped separately from the build. We agree who is responsible for each part before work begins.

Is local SEO the same as Google Ads?

No. SEO improves how your pages appear in organic search. Google Ads is paid advertising. If you want help with either, we confirm the scope with you first.

Can you promise page-one rankings?

No. We build a clear, fast, well-structured site and keep your business information consistent. Rankings depend on many things outside our control.

Do you write the copy?

Yes, we can write it with you, or work from your copy. We agree this when scoping.

Do you support the site after launch?

Optional ongoing support is available, with a scope agreed in advance.
