Local SEO services

Local SEO services for businesses that serve a specific area

Local SEO helps people near you find the right page for what they need. We set it up around your service area, whether that is a few towns in Oregon or a region in another state.

What local SEO means for a small business

Local SEO is the work of making it clear to search engines, and to the people using them, what your business does and where. It covers your website, your Google Business Profile and the consistency of your details around the web. It is organic work: it improves how your pages appear in unpaid results, and it is separate from paid advertising.

We optimize for your service area, not ours. Legend is based in West Hartford, Connecticut, and the work is done remotely, so the towns, cities and region we write about and plan around are the ones where your customers are. This page is about the search side of a project. Layout, copy and build are covered on our small business web design page.

Starting with search intent and your service area

We begin by listing what you sell and where you sell it, then look at how local customers describe those needs. Someone looking for an emergency repair searches differently from someone comparing providers before a large project, and each deserves a page that fits.

  • Service list

Each main service becomes a candidate for its own page, so it can be found and understood on its own.

  • Area list

The towns, neighborhoods or regions you really serve. We include only places you actually work in.

  • Intent

Whether a searcher wants to hire, compare, learn or find your location, and which page should meet them.

  • Page assignment

One main purpose per page, so pages support each other rather than repeating each other.

Questions before you decide?

Tell us what you offer, the area you serve and your current site address.

Google Business Profile consistency

For many local searches, your Google Business Profile appears alongside your website. We make sure the two agree: business name, address or service area, phone number, hours, categories and website link. If you serve customers at their location rather than at a storefront, the profile settings and the site both need to describe that the same way.

We review the profile with you, suggest corrections and align the website's contact page, footer and structured details with it. You keep control of your own profile and account.

A site structure search engines can crawl

  • A clear page hierarchy and a sitemap submitted for indexing
  • Descriptive, stable addresses for every page
  • Unique titles and descriptions for each page, aligned with its purpose
  • A single preferred address for each page, so duplicates do not split attention
  • Redirects from old addresses to the closest new page when a site is moved
  • Internal links with descriptive text that connect related services and information
  • Images sized for the screen and pages kept light, with Core Web Vitals reviewed on a best-effort basis

Useful content, not filler

Search engines reward pages that help the person searching. We plan content around real customer questions: what a service involves, how to prepare, what affects the result and how to choose a provider. These pages are written once, kept accurate and linked to the service they support.

We do not build pages that exist only to name another town. If you genuinely serve an area and have something useful to say about it, a page may be justified. Otherwise a clear service-area section on the relevant pages does the job.

Measuring organic results

After launch we agree what to look at: impressions and clicks in Google Search Console, which pages bring visitors, calls and form inquiries, and how Business Profile views change. Local results vary with competition and with where the searcher is standing, so we describe trends and what we learn rather than promising a position.

One-time setup or ongoing support

Some businesses need the foundation done once as part of a website project. Others want ongoing help with new pages, updates and review of how the site is performing. We scope either as agreed in advance, with the deliverables and review points written down. Your proposal sets out deliverables, schedule, hosting and ownership arrangements before work begins.

Common questions

Can you do local SEO for a business outside Connecticut?

Yes. The work is done remotely and is built around your service area, wherever it is.

Can you guarantee first-page rankings?

No. Rankings depend on competition, location and many factors outside anyone's control. We build a clear, consistent, crawlable site and measure what happens.

How long does local SEO take?

It varies by market and by how much already exists. We discuss what to expect for your situation when we scope the project.

Do you manage my Google Business Profile?

We review it with you and align it with your site. You remain the owner of the account. Ongoing help can be scoped separately.

Is this the same as running ads?

No. Local SEO is organic and improves how your pages appear in unpaid results. Paid advertising is a different service, and any help with it is scoped separately.

Do I need a new website first?

Not always. Sometimes the existing site can be improved. We look at it first and recommend improving or rebuilding.
