Holiday family portraits

Holiday family portraits videography and photography in Connecticut

A holiday family portrait session can honor Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Christmas, the solstice, a quiet New Year or simply good winter light. We begin by asking what your family celebrates, what you would like to see in the frame and what you would rather leave out. Then we shape the session around you.

Video: a short family keepsake video

If you want more than still images, a short video can hold what photographs cannot: the sound of a laugh, a child’s voice, the way your family moves around the kitchen or the yard. We plan the video and the photography together so the moving pieces have room to breathe.

Everything here is optional. Some families choose a warm greeting to send to relatives, others prefer a few short spoken messages or a quiet collection of ambient moments set to natural sound.

  • A moving holiday or year-end greeting for family and friends
  • Short messages from grandparents, parents or children, in their own words
  • Ambient moments such as candle lighting, cooking, walking or playing outside

Photography: portraits that fit your season

Photography is the heart of a portrait session. We make full-family group portraits, smaller groupings, couples, siblings and individual portraits, with unposed moments between them so the gallery feels like your family and not a pose chart.

Winter light is soft and low, and it can flatter faces beautifully. We look for it outdoors in bare trees, snow or open fields, or indoors near a window at home. Any decor, clothing or objects tied to your tradition are yours to choose.

Questions before you decide?

Tell us what you celebrate, who is coming and what you would like to keep. Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote.

How video and photography work together

When a session includes both, we agree on the order in advance: usually portraits first while everyone is fresh, then the moving moments while energy is natural. A single operator cannot cover two moments at once, so if the plan calls for video and stills in the same minutes, we discuss an additional operator.

Cold weather and small children set the pace. We schedule breaks, keep warm spaces in mind and never rush a nervous toddler or a tired grandparent for the sake of a shot list.

How we plan and cover your holiday family portrait session

Our process starts with listening and keeps the video, when you want one, in step with the portraits.

  • Before the session

We ask what your family celebrates, or whether you celebrate at all, and what you want shown or left out. We agree on location, who will be there, the scope of photography and any video, and prepare a scoped quote. One family contact keeps decisions simple.

  • Preparing everyone

We suggest layers, comfortable shoes and colors that work together, as suggestions only. For optional messages we share a few gentle prompts so no one memorizes lines. Children and grandparents are never asked to hold a pose longer than feels easy.

  • Coordinating logistics

You choose where to meet, whether a park, a yard, a home or another place you have permission to use. We discuss weather and a warm fallback, parking, walking distance for older relatives, and how pets will be handled on the day.

  • On the day

We arrive at the agreed time, read the light and begin with the group portrait, then move to smaller groups and individuals. If video is included, we capture ambient moments between setups and note any schedule change as it happens.

  • After the session

We explain how the gallery is selected and delivered, and how any video will be cut, including sound and color choices. We agree on review and delivery checkpoints and on how you plan to use the images, such as cards or prints.

Choosing photography, video or both

Photography alone is a complete session and never needs video attached. Video alone suits families who mostly want a greeting or recorded messages. Both together give you a gallery for the wall and a short video for sharing.

If you are unsure, tell us who will see the results and where. A card for friends, a gift for grandparents and a family archive each point toward a slightly different mix.

Planning your session by page

Our Holiday family portrait videography page covers the optional video in depth, from greetings and short messages to sound and editing choices. Our Holiday family portrait photography page covers poses, layers, indoor and outdoor light, pets and gallery delivery.

Our service is available throughout the year, so sessions are not limited to one holiday week. Share your preferred season and we will plan around it.

What to send when you ask about your holiday family portrait session

Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote. Whatever you do not know yet, we will ask about.

  • Your preferred date or season and town
  • What your family celebrates, or that you prefer a general winter theme
  • Anything you would like shown or left out
  • Who will be in the photos, including children and pets
  • Indoor, outdoor or both
  • Whether you would like photography, video or both

Common questions

Do we need to celebrate Christmas?

No. Sessions are built around your family. Tell us about Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, the solstice, a winter birthday or no holiday at all, and we will plan around that. We do not assume any imagery.

Can we do the session outdoors in winter?

Yes, if everyone is comfortable. We plan for layers, short outdoor stretches and a warm place to take breaks. If the weather turns, we can discuss moving indoors or choosing another date.

Can our dog or cat be in the portraits?

Yes. Pets are part of many families. Let us know about their temperament, and we will plan around a handler, leashes and breaks. Details such as the setting are confirmed at inquiry.

How do I get a quote?

Send us your date, location, group size and whether you want photography, video or both. We prepare a scoped quote from those details. The quote reflects your session and not a generic list.
