Holiday family portraits / Photography

Holiday family portrait photography in Connecticut

These sessions are for any family and any tradition: Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Christmas, the solstice or simply the quiet of winter. We ask what you celebrate and what you would like to see or leave out. Then we make group and individual portraits, outdoors in winter light or indoors at home.

Starting from your family, not a theme

We do not arrive with a set of decorations or an assumed holiday. You tell us what matters: a menorah, a kinara, lamps, a tree, a favorite chair or nothing seasonal at all. If you would like decor in the photos, you bring or arrange it. If you would rather keep things simple, we do.

This also means we know what to avoid. Imagery that does not belong to your family stays out of the gallery.

Group portraits and individual portraits

We begin with the full family while everyone is fresh, then move to smaller groups, couples, siblings and each person on their own. A short shot list from you helps, especially for multi-generation families.

  • Full group

A clear, flattering portrait of everyone together, with a relaxed version after.

  • Smaller groupings

Parents and children, grandparents with grandchildren, siblings and couples.

  • Individual portraits

A relaxed portrait of each person, including those who dislike being photographed.

Questions before you decide?

Tell us what you celebrate and who will be in the photos. Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote.

How we plan and cover your holiday family portraits

Our approach keeps the session calm and flexible, and it stays in step with any optional video.

  • Before the session

We ask what your family celebrates, who will be in the photos and what to show or leave out. We agree on the location, the portrait list and the delivery, and prepare a scoped quote. One family contact answers our questions and keeps the day organized.

  • Helping everyone feel ready

We share suggestions on layers, coordinated colors and timing around naps and meals. On the day we guide quietly, with no forced smiles. Children get room to wiggle, and nervous adults get a few easy prompts so a pose feels natural.

  • Coordinating the setting

We confirm where we meet, parking, walking distance, restrooms and a warm fallback if weather is poor. For indoor sessions we ask about room light and which spaces are open. Pets, special objects and any traditions to feature are settled in advance.

  • On the day

We arrive early to read the light, then follow the agreed list: full group, smaller groups, couples and individuals, with candid moments between. If a keepsake video is part of the plan, we coordinate roles so stills and record do not compete for the same minutes.

  • Gallery and delivery

We explain how images are selected, edited for color and tone, and delivered in web-ready and print-ready files. We agree on review and delivery checkpoints, plus how you plan to use them, from holiday cards to wall prints.

Winter light, layers and the setting

Outdoors, low winter sun and overcast skies give soft, even light. Indoors, a window and a plain wall can be enough. We watch for mixed lamp light and balance color so faces look natural. Subtle bounce or a soft flash is used only if the space and host permit.

For clothing, we suggest layers that keep everyone warm and colors that sit well together, avoiding bold logos. These are suggestions, not rules. Bring gloves, scarves and blankets that can double as comfortable props.

  • Outdoor: parks, yards, open fields or places you have permission to use
  • Indoor: your home, a relative’s home or another space confirmed at inquiry
  • Breaks somewhere warm for children and older relatives

Children, pets and gallery delivery

Children move, and we let them. We use quick shutter speeds, short stretches of posing and play in between. Pets are welcome, and a second family member to handle them keeps everyone calm. Leashes can be edited out where practical.

Afterward, we select the strongest images and deliver a gallery with web-ready files for sharing and print-ready files for cards, frames and albums, as agreed in the scope.

What to send when you ask about your holiday family portrait session

Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote. Whatever you do not know yet, we will ask about.

  • Preferred date or season, and your town
  • What your family celebrates, if anything, and what to leave out
  • Number of people, ages and any pets
  • Indoor, outdoor or both, and any location in mind
  • Group and individual portraits you want
  • How you plan to use the images, such as cards or prints

Common questions

What should we wear?

Choose clothes that are comfortable, warm and work well together. Layers help outdoors. We offer suggestions only, so wear what feels like your family. Avoid bold logos if you want a timeless gallery.

Where can we hold the session?

Anywhere your family has permission to be: a park, a yard, a home or another space. Outdoor and indoor options are both available, and specifics are confirmed at inquiry after we hear your plans.

Will you include our tradition in the photos?

Only if you want it. Tell us which objects, decor or moments to feature and which to leave out. We do not add imagery your family has not chosen.

How do I request a quote?

Send your date, location, group size and what portraits you want. We prepare a scoped quote from those details. Sessions are available throughout the year, not only in the holiday season.
