Holiday family portraits / Videography

Holiday family portrait videography in Connecticut

A short video can sit beside your portraits as an optional keepsake. It might be a moving greeting to send to relatives, a few short spoken messages or quiet moments from your day. We shape it around what your family celebrates, or around winter itself, and leave out whatever you prefer.

A video with a gentle pace

A family video does not need a plot. We let it move slowly: hands lighting candles, a pot on the stove, boots crunching on a path, a child running toward a grandparent. The pacing follows your family’s rhythm rather than a template.

Before recording we ask which moments matter and which should stay private. A tradition, a blessing or a certain room can be included or kept out of frame entirely.

Greetings, messages and ambient moments

A moving greeting can be a few warm seconds from the whole family to send to friends and relatives. Short messages are brief spoken notes from one or two people, such as a grandparent’s wish for the year ahead.

  • Holiday or year-end greeting

A short, shareable moment from the family, in whatever words feel right.

  • Short messages

Prompts given beforehand, never memorized lines, and recorded in a relaxed setting.

  • Ambient moments

Cooking, gathering, walking outside or playing, kept with natural sound.

Questions before you decide?

Tell us who the video is for and what you would like to capture. Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote.

How we plan and cover your family keepsake video

The video stays small, relaxed and shaped around the people in it, and it fits around your portrait session.

  • Before recording

We learn who the video is for, what you celebrate and what you want left out. We agree on the window, location, deliverables and crew, and prepare a scoped quote. One family contact makes decisions and shares anything we should know about relatives or children.

  • Preparing speakers

For messages we send a few simple questions, never a script. People can answer in their own words, repeat a line, or skip a prompt. Children can say a sentence or simply wave, and grandparents can take their time.

  • Coordinating the day

We confirm the location and permission to record there, quiet spaces for audio, and a warm fallback if weather changes. For indoor recording we ask about power, room light and where candles or decorations are used so we can frame around them safely.

  • Recording the moments

We check light, sound and framing, then record the greeting, messages and ambient moments around the portrait schedule. If video and stills are needed at once, we discuss a second operator. We guide gently and never ask anyone to perform.

  • Editing and delivery

We explain how the video will be cut, including music or natural sound, color and captions if you want them. We agree on review and delivery checkpoints and on where you plan to share it, then deliver in formats suited to those uses.

Sound, light and the camera on a cold day

Clear speech matters for messages, so we choose quiet corners and may use an independent backup recorder. Wind and cold can affect outdoor sound, which we plan for. Indoors, warm lamps and mixed light are handled so skin tones stay natural.

We keep a steady wide view for the whole group and add closer angles for faces and hands. One operator cannot video and photograph at the same moment, so when both are needed together we discuss adding a second operator.

Edit and delivery options

Once recorded, we talk through what shape suits you: one short keepsake video, a collection of separate messages, a vertical version for phones or a captioned cut for relatives who watch without sound. These are options to agree on, not a fixed list.

Video is always optional for a portrait session. Many families choose photography alone, and that is a complete choice.

What to send when you ask about your holiday family portrait session

Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote. Whatever you do not know yet, we will ask about.

  • Who the video is for and where it will be shared
  • Which kind you want: greeting, messages or ambient moments
  • Names and ages of those who may appear
  • Moments, traditions or rooms to include or keep private
  • Preferred date, town and indoor or outdoor setting
  • Whether captions or a vertical version would help

Common questions

Is video required with portraits?

No. Portrait sessions stand fully on their own. A keepsake video is optional, and you can add it to a session if you would like to hear and see your family move as well as keep still images.

Do people need to speak on camera?

Not at all. A greeting can be a smile and a wave, and a message can be a single sentence. We offer gentle prompts in advance and respect anyone who prefers to stay quiet.

Can the video avoid religious imagery?

Yes. Tell us what to include and what to leave out, whether that is a holiday, a ritual or any decor. We video what your family wants shown and nothing else.

How is the video priced?

We prepare a scoped quote from your date, location and coverage needs, including the style of video and the people involved. Share those details and we will respond with options.
