Holiday card photos

Holiday card photo videography and photography in Connecticut

A holiday card photo has a narrower job than a general family portrait: it has to work in a small frame, beside text, and arrive in time for your printer. Legend Photo & Film plans the session around that job, with a moving greeting available as an option. We work across Connecticut, and your quote is scoped from your date, location and coverage needs.

A short moving greeting to send with or instead of a card

Some families like the idea of a card that also moves. A brief clip of everyone waving, laughing or saying a few words can travel by message or email to relatives who rarely see the family in person, and it can sit beside a printed card or replace it for people you would otherwise reach by digital note.

Video is optional scope here, never a requirement for the photo session. If you want it, we shape it as a short, warm digital greeting with clean sound and a simple edit, and we agree the format and where you plan to share it before the session.

Photography made to be used on a card

Card photography starts with where the picture will go. We think about portrait and landscape orientation, how the image will be cropped for a flat or folded card, and where there is calm, even space for a greeting, names or a border. A single clear hero image matters most, because a card rarely has room for more than one or two.

Alongside that frame we capture a few alternates, so your design can choose a tighter crop, a wider one or a different expression. Final selects are delivered as a gallery with print-ready files.

  • Portrait and landscape versions of the key frame
  • Open space left for text, borders and logos
  • Alternate crops and expressions to choose from
  • Print-ready files in the sizes your designer needs

Coordinated capture for a moving greeting and the card photo

When a family wants both a card image and a short clip, we plan them together. Video and photography are planned together. We decide which frames are still-first and which moments are recorded, so no one is asked to repeat the same pose three times.

One operator works one moment at a time, so a session that includes both is paced with that in mind. If your group is large, the location is complex or you want both finished at once, we discuss an additional operator and confirm it in your scoped quote.

How we plan and cover your holiday card photo session

We begin with where the image will be used and work backward to the session, so the card photo and any short greeting are planned as one project.

  • Before the session

We learn how the card will be used, who is on it and whether a moving greeting is wanted. We agree the location, coverage window and deliverables, then prepare a scoped quote. We ask for one contact, and explain that we need your printer’s deadline from you, while we handle planning of the session itself.

  • Preparing the family

We give plain suggestions rather than rules: how to dress so everyone feels like themselves, how to keep a group together and what to expect on the day. Children and grandparents get relaxed direction and short breaks. If a greeting is recorded, we use simple prompts, never memorized lines.

  • Coordinating the location and design

You choose and arrange the setting, indoors or outdoors, and confirm access and any permission it needs. We ask about your card layout so we can leave design-safe space, and about weather or room fallbacks. Your designer or printer remains the source for final specifications.

  • On the day

We arrive for the agreed setup, check light and framing, and photograph the hero image in both orientations before exploring alternates. If a clip is included, we record it in a separate short block. We direct when it helps and let natural moments happen, and we say so early if more operators would help.

  • After the session

We explain how selects were chosen, how files are prepared for print and screen, and how the gallery and any clip are delivered. We set review and delivery checkpoints against your confirmed printer deadline during planning, so the schedule reflects it rather than a general promise.

Choosing photo only, video only or both

Most card customers need photographs and nothing else, and that is a complete session. Add the short greeting if you also want something to send digitally, or if the card is going to relatives who would enjoy hearing and seeing the family. The clip can also be the only deliverable if you are not printing a card at all.

Tell us how many people receive the card, whether you print or send digitally, and which one you care about most. We will describe what each option includes so you can choose without paying for extras you do not need.

Planning your holiday card session with the right pages

Our holiday card photography in Connecticut page covers orientation, negative space, group size, outfit suggestions and print-ready delivery. The holiday card videography in Connecticut page explains the optional moving greeting in more detail.

Card design, printing and shipping are separate from the session and are confirmed separately, with the designer or printer you choose. Sessions are available throughout the year, so you can plan early rather than in the last weeks before the mailing.

What to send when you ask about your holiday card photo session

Share your date, location and coverage needs so we can prepare a scoped quote. Whatever you do not know yet, we will ask about.

  • Your preferred session date and town
  • Number of people, including children and pets
  • Card size, fold and orientation, if known
  • Whether you also want a short moving greeting
  • Your printer’s card deadline, confirmed by you
  • Who will design, print and mail the card

Common questions

Do you design, print or ship the cards?

We make the photographs and, if you choose it, a short digital greeting. Card design, printing and shipping are separate steps, each confirmed separately with the designer or printer you select. We prepare files in the sizes they ask for, so the handoff is simple.

Who sets the deadline for the card?

Your printer does, and you confirm it with them. Once you share it, we plan the session and the review and delivery checkpoints working back from that date. Booking early gives more room, and sessions are available throughout the year, not only in the busy holiday weeks.

Can the video replace the printed card?

Yes. A short moving greeting can be sent alongside a printed card or on its own to people you reach digitally. It is optional scope, so a photo-only session is complete without it. We agree the clip’s format and where you will share it before the session.

How do you quote a holiday card session?

We prepare a scoped quote from your date, location and coverage needs, including group size and whether a clip is included. Share those details and your wishes for the card, and we will describe the options and confirm what the quote covers before you decide.
