Newborn photography
Newborn photography in Connecticut, planned around your family
A calm, family-led session for the first weeks with your baby, planned at inquiry around your home, your schedule and what feels comfortable, not a fixed formula.
A family-led approach to newborn photography
The first weeks with a baby are busy, tired and tender. A session should add calm, not another thing to manage. We approach newborn photography as family and lifestyle photography: the baby, the parents, the siblings and the home they are settling into, photographed with patience and without hurry.
This page describes a family and lifestyle-led approach. Before booking, we confirm the style you want, the location and any specialist posing requirements, so the plan matches what you have in mind.
Planning the session at inquiry

Because every family and every baby is different, we plan sessions individually. When you contact us, we ask a few questions and talk through how we would approach your session.
Timing
We talk about your baby's age and your schedule, and plan a date that suits your family. The timing is set at inquiry, and we work around feeding, sleep and how you are feeling.
Where the session happens
Most families choose their home, where the baby is comfortable and the light is familiar. We talk about the rooms and the window light, and other locations can be discussed.
Who is included
Parents, siblings, grandparents or pets, if you want them. We plan the order so older children are not waiting around.
What to expect from us
A clear description of the length, the number of final photos and how they are delivered, all confirmed in writing.
Questions before you decide?
Share where you live, your baby's age or due date and what you would like to remember, and we will reply with questions and a plan.
Comfort, safety and pace
A newborn session moves at the baby's speed. We take breaks for feeding, soothing and changes, and we keep the room warm and quiet. You hold your baby and decide what you are comfortable with. We keep poses simple and family-held, and if a moment does not feel right to you, we skip it. Any request for specialist posing is discussed and confirmed before booking.
- You stay with your baby throughout the session.
- We pause whenever the baby needs feeding, soothing or a change.
- We keep poses simple, with parents or caregivers holding the baby.
- If anyone is unwell, we reschedule.
Including parents, siblings and the home
Some of the most treasured newborn photographs include the people around the baby: a parent's hands, a sibling's curious look, a grandparent holding on. We make room for those moments, and for the details of home that tell the story of this particular time, such as a nursery chair, a hospital bracelet or a favorite blanket.
Siblings
Older children warm up differently. We keep their part short and playful and photograph them when they are ready.
Parents
Portraits of you with your baby, even if you are tired. We guide you gently so you do not have to think about posing.
Details
Hands, feet and small items from your home that remind you of this stage.
Preparing for the session
Preparation is mostly about making the day easy for you.
- Pick the room with the best window light and tidy only what you want to.
- Choose simple outfits and solid colors for family members, and keep the baby's clothing and blanket simple.
- Plan a feed shortly before we begin, if that suits your routine.
- Keep the room comfortably warm for the baby.
- Tell us about any pets, other children or special items you want included.
Delivery of your photos
We confirm the number of final photographs, the delivery format and the timing at inquiry. Photos are edited for natural color and consistency. If you plan to print or make an album, tell us so we deliver sizes that fit.
Newborn photography, maternity and family portraits
Newborn photography is for the weeks after the baby arrives. Maternity photography is a separate session for the months beforehand, with its own planning around comfort and timing. Many families do both, but each can be booked on its own. Family portraits and pet portraits cover other times in your life.
