Discovery at the table

A boy in a yellow and navy plaid shirt lifts a green magnifier to his face and studies a tray of stones, shells and bark. The magnifier covers most of his eyes, so the photograph is about attention rather than a smile.

The orange tray, the wooden table and the soft classroom behind him keep the frame warm and uncluttered.

Learning through play

The header photograph shows three children with curved wooden pieces on a patterned rug. The frames below follow those pieces from one pair of hands to the next: two boys set a toy animal on a tunnel, a third child laughs while holding a toy bear, three children tilt and arrange ramps, and a boy crawls toward the lens past a wooden tunnel.

Most of the frames are made close to floor level, at the children's height. More than one child stays in the picture so the shared activity is visible.

Teacher connections

A teacher holds up a board book titled Families while a young girl leans in to look. In the next frame the same girl holds out two small toy animals and the teacher answers with open hands. In the third, a teacher sits among toddlers on a tree-patterned rug.

These photographs stay close to the interactions and let the room soften behind them.

Color and concentration

A toddler lifts a white shape sorter above a bowl of colorful pieces, and another looks up with a smile from a table of red, blue, green and yellow wooden blocks.

The bright toys against natural wood and soft gray walls give both photographs their color.

The people behind the school

Two staff members stand together on the playground beside a yellow Find the Spinners panel and a sign reading The Goddard School. In a second portrait, one sits in a wooden rocking chair while the other stands beside her on a blue, nature-patterned rug.

This page presents thirteen photographs selected from the Farmington session. It is a selection, not the full set.
