Proposals

Proposal video and photography in Connecticut

A proposal happens once and over in seconds. We plan the moment with you, stay out of sight, and record the question, the surprise and the first few minutes afterward.

Starting with the two of you

Every proposal is different because every couple is different. Before we discuss cameras, we want to understand the story: how long you have been together, where you feel most yourselves, what she or he loves, and what would make the moment feel right instead of staged.

We also ask about the people involved. Will family or friends be hiding nearby? Is there a ring bearer, a dog, a song? Who will be told in advance and who will be surprised along with the person being asked? These questions shape the plan.

Planning the surprise

The proposal is yours to plan, and we plan around it. We talk through the location, the time of day, the light, the route you will walk and where we can stand without being noticed. We choose a signal so we know when the moment begins.

A good plan has a backup. Weather changes, restaurants run late, and people arrive at the wrong time. We discuss what happens if rain moves the proposal indoors or if the person being asked is running behind, so you are not improvising.

  • Choosing the place

A beach, a garden, a restaurant, a rooftop, a favorite trail. We visit or look at photos so we know where to stand.

  • Timing the light

We help you pick a time when the light is flattering and the place is quiet.

  • A discreet presence

We arrive early, dress to blend in, and use equipment that does not draw attention.

  • The signal

A text, a gesture or a song, so we are ready when you are.

Questions before you decide?

Tell us when and where, and we will talk through how to record it without giving the surprise away.

When the plan changes

Proposals rarely go exactly as planned. A restaurant runs late, a path is crowded, a sudden shower arrives. We stay flexible, communicate quickly, and adjust the plan, so you can focus on the question instead of the logistics.

What you receive

After the proposal, many couples want a short photo session to celebrate. We can follow the proposal with a relaxed set of portraits while the emotion is still fresh.

Deliverables are agreed in advance: a gallery of photos, a short film of the proposal, or both. We deliver quickly when you plan to share the news, and we explain how to keep the files safe.

  • Jacob and Thea lean together beside the pond with woodland behind them
  • Jacob and Thea face one another in a full-length portrait by the pond
  • Tommy dips Sophia for a kiss in the aisle while their guests watch

Who should know, and who should not

Surprise proposals fall apart through small leaks. We keep your plan confidential, communicate only through the channel you choose, and avoid anything that would give the moment away, such as an obvious camera bag or a message that arrives at the wrong time. If you want a friend to help hold the plan together, we can work directly with them.

If the person being asked is someone who dislikes attention, tell us. We can choose a quieter place and a longer lens so the moment feels private while still being recorded.

After the question

The minutes after a proposal are rarely planned and often the most memorable: a phone call to a parent, a toast with friends, a walk along the water. We stay nearby, record what happens, and let you decide whether to include family or friends who were hiding.

If you would like a celebration session afterward, we can arrange it for later the same day or another day, when the excitement has settled and you can enjoy being photographed together.

Preparing the people involved

If friends or family will be part of the surprise, we share a short plan with them so they know where to stand and when to appear. We also advise the person proposing on what to expect, such as how long to hold a moment so it can be recorded and what to do if a stranger walks through the frame.

We do not script what you say. The words you choose are yours, and the best recordings come from a moment that feels like itself.

Locations and capturing the moment

Outdoor proposals depend on wind, light and crowds. Restaurant proposals depend on room layout and staff cooperation. We check the venue rules in advance and, when needed, speak with the staff so we are not surprised either.

We record from a distance with long lenses and place a second camera where possible to capture both faces. We keep going after the question, because the minutes afterward, with the hugs, the tears and the phone calls, are often the part couples value most.

  • Tell us the planned location and time, and any backup plan.
  • Share who will be nearby and who is in on the surprise.
  • Let us know about the ring, the route you will take and the signal you prefer.
  • Mention any rules from the venue or park about photography and filming.

Editing and sharing the news

Editing keeps the sound, the pause before the answer and the reactions of anyone nearby. We keep the film short and let the moment carry it. If you want a version for social media and a longer one to keep, we make both.

  • Amanda and Charles share a kiss on a large rock beside the water
  • Christina and Tajay embrace on the staircase, seen from above through the brass rail

Common questions

How early do we need to book?

As early as you know the date. If the date is still moving, tell us and we plan around the window.

Will they notice you?

We plan positions in advance, arrive early and dress to blend in. We cannot promise that no one will notice, but we work to keep the moment private.

Can you follow up with a photo session?

Yes. Many couples add a short session right after, or an engagement session later.

What if the weather changes?

We discuss a backup location before the day and confirm changes quickly.

Is there a seasonal page for holiday proposals?

Yes. The holiday proposal page covers winter and festive settings. This page is for proposals at any time of year.
